Laundry Quandary

Apr 29th, 2009 by admin | 3

It’s funny to go back and read supposed revelations I’ve blogged about. The Law of the Laundry was a post a while back that declared a new steadfast laundry rule: one load a day from start to finish. Well, here’s the problem. There’s no law enforcement here. It’s not like I have to pay a fine if I miss a load (although that might not be a bad idea).

My tendency is to get overwhelmed over well, a lot of things including laundry. I was feeling that way a few weeks ago when my dear husband said to me:

I don’t mind if you get overwhelmed over big stuff… but laundry is stupid.

I love that man. Now my mother is shaking her head as she reads this thinking, “Honey, why is it so difficult? Just put a load in when you wake up in the morning.” I say this not because I can read her mind, but because she has told me this many times. Sometimes a person of the stubborn sort just has to get there on her own…

I am proud to say that for the last week, I have started a load in the morning and finished it completely (no stacks on the floor) by the end of the day. I even took a day off and didn’t get behind. Folding clothes isn’t nearly as bad when you only have one little load, and when you’re not finishing it late at night when you’re dead tired. All this to say that laundry doesn’t have to be an issue. I can control it by doing a little at a time.

    Hi Julie,
I laughed when I read this. My children are 9 and 4 and I have been married 13 years this month. Somehow, after all this time, I still battle with laundry issues.
As I type (hmmm, maybe this is the problem :-) ) I have a load waiting to come out of the dryer, a load waiting patiently on my bed to be folded and put away, and at least 2 waiting to be washed.

Thanks for your inspiration to conquer!!

Hope all is well with you and your precious little ones!
    Lori

This comment happened to come on a day when I blew it on the laundry home front. It’s just like any other type of housework. You have to stay on top of it constantly! I have found that if the load isn’t done by the time Mike gets home from work, it’s going to take much more effort to make it happen. Then I get ill because I have to move the piles of clothes off the bed before I can go to sleep!

I have told you before, I believe, laundry is my LEAST favorite chore…and somehow it multiplies and ends up all over the house! Piles here, stacks there…ugh…I’m gonna try to to the one load a day approach yet again and see if I can get caught up!
