About

About Me

The Family

I am a “domestic engineer” as they called it in the late ’70s when my mom stayed at home with me. Call me housewife, call me stay-at-home mom, call me tired. What I do all day is my best to keep this household running smoothly, okay… running.

Why home sweet homemaker? By definition, a homemaker is somebody who manages a household as a primary job. That’s what I do and on a good day, I’m sweet about it.

I have a wonderful and supportive husband and two beautiful daughters. Being a parent is the hardest thing I have ever done. When our first daughter was just a baby, my husband and I were encouraged to write a family mission statement through a parenting class we were taking at church. Here is what we thoughtfully came up with:

Our home will be a haven where everyone is encouraged to reach their potential and delight in life with love, joy and tenderness.

That was back in 2005, and I am still stuck on that “home will be a haven” part. Keeping house isn’t enjoyable, but I believe it is a necessary first step to having a haven-like home. My family deserves it.

Maybe this site will be my journey toward a home-haven; maybe not. Really I just decided to do something different with my birthday money this year. Yes, I am a grown-up and I get birthday money.

Some random facts about me: I am a perfectionist down to the core, I fantasize about being able to teleport to avoid traffic, and I treasure sleep. Contact me at julie{at}homesweethomemaker.org.
