Why I tried Micellar Water
The first time I heard about micellar water, I actually thought it was some sort of vitamin water that fancy people drank. Maybe you thought that too and I’m not alone, or maybe I’m just out of the loop.
Anyways, I thought that for a really long time until recently, when I began to have some major skin problems. My teenage years were pretty typical. I had combination skin. Very dry patches mixed with some oily acne in my T-zone. Nothing crazy, but not great either.
As I got into my older teen years my skin pretty much cleared up. When I began using coconut oil on my face after every shower I noticed a huge upgrade and didn’t really have to worry about my skin for years.
Now, at age 25, I recently noticed that my skin has begun to show some age. Maybe it’s stress, maybe it’s exhaustion, maybe it’s just being a mom. Whatever the case, my skin was starting to look blotchy, dry, and tired and my T-zone was flaring up again with every hormonal fluctuation I had. Not only was my face doing this, my entire chest was breaking out throughout each month and I just couldn’t take it anymore.
Frustrated, I googled some things I could do to fix my blemished and sad looking skin. One of the first things that popped up was “Micellar Water”. I looked into it and decided to try some. I bought the cheapest kind they had at Walmart.
What is micellar water & how does it work?
So, micellar water was actually invented in France because their tap water was so full of nasty chemicals that made their skin gross. Someone invented this cleansing water that actually pulls toxins, makeup, and dirt out of your pores leaving them clean.
It has no scent, leaves no residue on your face, and doesn’t need to be rinsed. It’s basically the easiest 1-step facial cleanser you could ever ask for!
The only downside to this cleanser is that you absolutely have to use a cotton pad to apply it. If you’re running low on pads, you could use a cotton ball as well. Some women choose to buy washable cotton facial pads to eliminate waste. Regardless of what kind of cotton you use, the micellar water is activated by cotton and has to be poured onto some sort of cotton in order to activate the micelles to pick up the toxins on your skin.
Does micellar water work as well as everyone says it does?
YES! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Guys, seriously. This is the best thing I have ever used on my face. And maybe it’s just a phase and my skin will get used to it and it will stop working. Who knows. But for now, I’ve been using it for four months and I still am loving it and I have had ONE PIMPLE in four months!
When I was researching how to use the micellar water, it was suggested that you clean your face twice daily with it. I have started cleaning my face every morning after I wake up. Since I don’t ever have makeup on when I wake up, I take one cotton pad, pour a little bit of the water on it and use that one pad to wipe my face, neck and chest area.
Evening is a bit more of a situational thing for me. Some nights when we stayed out late and I just want to go to sleep, I use micellar water and probably 2-4 cotton pads to completely remove makeup first and then when the makeup is gone I use 1 pad to cleanse my makeup free skin before bed.
However, if I have the time and energy to shower, I usually choose to wash my face in the shower with a regular facial cleanser and then moisturize afterwards. On days where I didn’t use makeup, leave the house, and don’t need to shower, I’ll do the same as in the morning with 1 pad and a little cleanser to just wipe down my whole face/neck/chest area before bed.
My take on micellar water
Even though I haven’t used it perfectly consistently, it has made an absolutely dramatic difference in my skin. In only four months I have gone from blotchy, blemished and tired looking skin to clear, even toned, bright and soft skin.
I’m so thrilled to have found this product! While I definitely wish it was a bit cheaper (and I am considering buying washable cotton pads), it has been so worth the investment. I spend so little time on my skin and it has been life-changing for my self confidence.
If you’re having skin problems and don’t know what to do to fix it, run to your local general store and grab a small bottle of micellar water and some cotton pads to try it out! Worst case scenario, you’ll be out about $10 and will still have clean skin.
If you tried it, let me know in the comments how it worked for you!
